Reggie and Regina, the Museum’s resident sharks, have had a very busy year. So busy, in fact, that they haven’t had much time to post about their museum adventures on social media. The Museum team thought this would be the perfect opportunity to catch up with them. Read on for an end of year conversation with the Museum Sharks.
Q: As the Sharks-in-Residence, you both live at the Evansville Museum. What’s the best part of your day?
A: Seeing all the guests! It is so much fun when families come to visit and take us on trips around the Museum. When we get to experience the exhibitions along with you, we see something new each time.
We also love seeing all the kids who visit the Museum on field trips. The Museum’s Docents work super hard to provide fun experiences; did you know that by the beginning of December, the Docents had already led field trips for almost five thousand students?! If you see a Docent, be sure to thank them, because they are awesome!
Q: What are you most proud of this year?
A: The opening of the new Picasso exhibition! It is so cool that we have something like this in Evansville. The fact that there are so few fused glass or gemmaux pieces by Picasso makes even more special!
To go along with the Picasso exhibition, there is a new hands-on activity where you can use a light table to make your own gemmail (fused glass) inspired artwork. We have had a lot of fun making our own designs. We tried to recreate Picasso’s “Seated Woman in Red Hat”, but it was hard because we have fins instead of fingers. We bet you can do a better job than we did!
Q: What’s your favorite memory from 2024?
A: Watching the total solar eclipse! We got to watch it with all our friends on the Museum’s back lawn. Last time, during the 2017 eclipse, Regina went all the way to Hopkinsville, Kentucky. This time, both of us got to watch the eclipse together. It was a really spectacular moment.
Q: What are you most looking forward to next year?
A: All the Super Saturdays, especially the January Maker Super Saturday! It will be on Saturday January 25thfrom 11 am to 3 pm, and we can hardly wait. We can’t reveal any secrets quite yet, but we can tell you it will be very hands-on (or fins-on) and there will be some really cool special guests.
Q: Any goals for 2025?
A: We plan on posting more! We need to get back to sharing our adventures with the world. We’ll try to post at least once a month, and we hope you can help us, too! When you come to the Museum, please take a selfie or photo with us and share it on social media at #EvansvilleMuseum and #MuseumShark.
Q: Anything else?
A: The Museum is the most fun when you come to visit! We can’t wait to see you on your next adventure to the Evansville Museum.
