Development & Membership Coordinator

Mission
The Evansville Museum utilizes its permanent collection and resources to offer diverse educational experiences in art, history, and science for the tri-state region.
Job Summary

The Development & Membership Coordinator serves as a key member with the Museum and is the primary representative of the Museum’s Membership Program and must enjoy working with the public. In working with the Director of Development, the Development & Membership Coordinator is responsible for managing the Membership Program, including reporting and analysis, traffic management for membership efforts, and overall data management. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely fulfillment of gift processing, acknowledgements, and member requests. In addition, this role works with the Museum’s marketing and outreach team, development team, leadership, curators, and education team to develop, cultivate and manage relationships with the community.

Duties

Job Duties: 

  • Assists the Director of Development in planning and delivering successful membership and donor campaigns including membership recruitment, renewal and upgrade strategies. 
  • Provide customer service to members through in person, phone and email communications. 
  • Oversee processing of memberships, donations and inventories of development supplies. 
  • Manage donor and member databases including maintenance, acknowledgment letters, gift entry, and reporting with the goal of providing current, consistent and accurate data. 
  • Manage Museum donation requests and distribution to local nonprofits. 
  • Assist with the production and implementation of appeal campaigns, grants and other fundraising communications and strategies. 
  • Runs detailed queries as requested by other employees for specific needs. 
  • Looks for new ways to streamline database performance and improve customer interaction with the database including membership, donations, program, and event purchases.

Additional Duties: 

  • Works in collaboration with all departments of the Museum and assists the Executive Director as requested. 
  • Help cover the front desk when needed, assist front desk workers with database and membership questions and training.
Requirements

Required Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Experience in working with data management systems. 
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Excel and Word. 
  • Ability to work productively in a team environment. 
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral or written communications.

Security Guard – Part Time

Mission
The Evansville Museum utilizes its permanent collection and resources to offer diverse educational experiences in art, history, and science for the tri-state region.
Job Summary

The Security Guard has primary responsibilities for the security of the facility, including artworks/artifacts and furnishings, the safety of the staff and visitors to the Museum, and response to emergency situations. 

Duties

Job Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Watching over the visitors, staff and museum collection, assets and equipment. 
  • Continuous patrols of the museum premises may include patrolling the outdoors during inclement weather. 
  • Directing and informing visitors. 
  • Monitoring surveillance systems. 
  • Directing traffic and wayfinding for visitors. 
  • Ensuring the protection of Museum buildings, exhibitions, and displays, as well as the safety of visitors and staff, in and around our special exhibitions. Ensure that guests adhere to Museum Visitor policies. 
  • Specific hours are required for all guards Thursday – Sunday 10:45am to 5:00pm. It may be necessary for a Guard to be scheduled earlier in the morning or later at night. 

Additional Duties: 

  • Works in collaboration with all departments of the Museum. 
  • Perform additional services as may be requested by the Administration, Building and Grounds or Curatorial Staff.
Requirements

Required Knowledge & Skills: 

  • Dress professionally. 
  • Professional communication and customer service skills. 
  • Ability to work productively in a team environment. 
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral or written communications. 
  • High school diploma with knowledge of security and emergency procedures. 
  • Able to stand from 4 to 6 hours; ability to hear a normal conversation; lift and operate safely a fire extinguisher.

Internships

History Intern Program

This unique opportunity is designed to give university students an introduction to curatorial work at a mid-size, general museum. The intern will work directly with the Evansville Museum’s curator of history. Students will gain experience in the exhibition process, collection research, and related topics with an overall focus on local history. The successful candidate should be familiar with basic historic research techniques, be able to accomplish varied tasks, and have the ability to work both in a team setting and independently. Applications are accepted from students currently enrolled in college and majoring in history. These internships are popular and are often filled several semesters in advance.

This internship is non-paying and requires 150 hours for completion during the fall and spring semesters. Summer internships vary in the hours required and in availability. All internships are scheduled within a work week of Monday-Friday.

Friends Of The Evansville Museum

Friends of the Evansville Museum is one of Evansville’s premier cultural support organizations. This dynamic group provides financial support for the museum through a variety of fundraising programs and cultivates future museum leadership by nurturing the next generation of art collectors and community leaders.

Members enjoy a full calendar of exciting social and educational events, including Museum exhibitions, lectures, day trips and fundraisers. These activities promote awareness of the museum as well as a broader understanding of contemporary art and culture.

The Evansville Museum Docent Association

Our Museum Docents provide guided tours of the museum’s permanent collections, special exhibitions and planetarium shows for school children, church groups and other guests. These specially trained, volunteer museum ambassadors help visitors better understand and enjoy their visit.

Docents enjoy the privilege of getting the “first look” at most temporary exhibitions. Travel opportunities are also available, as the Docent Association plans one or two educational trips each year to various museums and galleries. Our Docents receive ongoing training for changing exhibitions and permanent collections.

At Evansville Museum, Docents lead children and adults on educational adventures designed to complement the classroom experience and bring the museum to life. Enthusiastic individuals who are willing to volunteer their time are always needed for our continuing efforts to enhance museum education.

The Evansville Museum Student Explainer Program

The Student Explainer program began during the summer of 1986 when one dozen high school students were selected to begin training in an effort to assist with work being done in the science galleries and the planetarium.

The program provides public service opportunities for are students in grades 7-12 to assist in providing public science demonstrations and to assist Museum staff in carrying out the mission of the Museum. Our program is modeled on the exhibit explainer concept in use for many years at the Exploratorium, a world-renowned science museum in San Francisco, California.

Student Explainers undergo an initial training period tofamiliarize themselves with the Museum’s operations and receive instruction on how to perform some pretty amazing science demonstrations. Volunteer hours take place on weekends and on weekdays during summer break. Interested individuals can apply to the program by completing a Registration Form.
