Koch Immersive Theater.jpg

Explore space and rediscover our amazing planet in our stunning Koch Immersive Theater & Planetarium where you can see traditional planetarium shows as well as be immersed in full-dome cinema utilizing Digistar® projection technology. Our 40-foot dome replaces the Koch Planetarium with an attraction that features stadium-style seating, a 10,000-watt digital surround sound system, and imagery resulting in an immersive experience more like flying than watching a movie.

Digital Dome technology is a breakthrough experience known in the planetarium industry as a “full-dome” or “immersive” experience. The Koch Immersive Theater & Planetarium utilizes two marvelously-bright digital video projectors, a huge 40-foot-wide hemispherical projection screen and stadium-style seating that allows great views from any seat.

To get the highest resolution possible, the Theater uses two cinema-grade video projectors — one for each half of the dome — which project a total of 11 million pixels. The edges of the projection overlap seamlessly and blend together, resulting in crisp, high-contrast moving images.

The Koch Immersive Theater & Planetarium also uses a computer graphics display system manufactured by Evans and Sutherland, makers of Digistar®, the world’s most advanced full dome theater system. Our computer graphics system contains most of the known objects in the universe including stars, galaxies, nebula, planets, comets, asteroids, and exoplanets. With Digistar®, flexible storytelling tools make it possible to customize presentations for any audience.

The Hot and Energetic Universe presents the achievements of modern astronomy, the most advanced terrestrial and orbital observatories, the basic principles of electromagnetic radiation and the natural phenomena related to High Energy Astrophysics.

High Energy Astrophysics plays a key role in understanding the universe, revealing the processes in our hot and violent universe. HEA probes the hot gas accreting around supermassive black holes and in clusters of galaxies, some of the most massive objects in our universe. This high energy radiation provides important information about galaxies, neutron stars, supernova remnants and stars, including our own Sun.

Learn about the XMM-Newton and Integral missions, the leaders in the exploration of the X-ray and gamma-ray universe. Also, join us for a sneak-peek at ESA’s mission ATHENA, to be launched in 2028, which will carry the most sensitive X-ray telescope ever and will be the flagship of all high X-ray missions going forward.

Our program for older children follows the antics of an alien family from another star system seeking the perfect vacation spot. Imagine the ultimate space vacation! Perfect Little Planet will help you discover our solar system through a new set of eyes. Fly over the surface of Pluto, our best known Dwarf Planet. Dive over the ice cliffs of Miranda. Sail through the rings of Saturn. Feel the lightning storms of Jupiter. And walk on the surface of Mars. Which destination would you choose? This program is a solar system journey for space travelers of all ages.

Produced by Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organization behind Sesame Street®, One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure, is a cross-cultural planetarium show geared toward children ages 4 to 6. Through the lens of astronomy, children join Elmo, Big Bird and a Muppet from China named Hu Hu Zhu to explore the night sky.

Mayan Archaeoastronomy is unique among planetarium shows, intertwining science and mythology to take the viewer on a poetic journey through how the Mayans have viewed and understood the Universe throughout their history. The visuals are stunning, giving the viewer the impression of being inside a beautifully stylistic painting. This artistic interpretation of the Universe makes for a journey that will not be forgotten.

The journey to reach the stars began with our earliest dreams of flying, and led to landing on the moon and sending a probe to Pluto. But that’s only the beginning. Space Next offers a glimpse into tomorrow, and the possibilities of what is to come by way of private space developments and national space programs. The result is an immersive display of interplanetary excellence sure to inspire a generation of explorers, scientists, and dreamers. Come discover what’s next.

What keeps Galaxies together? What are the building blocks of the Universe? What makes the Universe look the way it looks today? Researchers all around the world try to answer these questions. We know today that approximately a quarter of the Universe is filled with a mysterious glue: Dark Matter. We know that it is out there. But we have no idea what it is made out of.

This full-dome show takes you on the biggest quest of contemporary astrophysics. You will see why we know that Dark Matter exists, and how this search is one of the most challenging and exciting searches science has to offer. Join the scientists on their hunt for Dark Matter with experiments in space and deep underground. Will they be able to solve the Dark Matter Mystery?

Presented “live” as a traditional planetarium experience, this program typically details the visible constellations and planets of our night sky while allowing visitors to grasp our unique place in space. The program includes interaction with the presenter, and those attending are encouraged to ask questions.
