Justin Vining is an Indianapolis-based artist, specializing in landscapes and cityscapes. Justin studied Art Education at Purdue University and taught elementary art for three years. Following his tenure as a teacher, Vining attended Valparaiso Law School, where he rekindled his love for creating between classes and clerking. Shortly after graduating and passing the bar in 2010, he decided to pursue art full-time and hasn't looked back.
Originally from a small farm town in Indiana, Justin finds inspiration from American regionalist painters and the public art created during the 1935-1943 Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project. In his progress as a full-time artist, Justin's artwork has evolved from bright, whimsical watercolors and acrylics to more traditional oil scenes. In 2014, he began working outdoors, called 'en plein air', exploring more muted, natural tones. Since then, Vining has painted well over 1,000 paintings outside while balancing his studio practice. This prolific outdoor exploration reflects his commitment to capturing the essence of nature and the ever-changing landscapes that inspire his work.
Justin is an award-winning painter who has an extensive exhibition history, and his paintings are included in public and private collections across the world. In recent years his work has been featured extensively on the HGTV show Good Bones.
Justin Vining works in his studio/gallery space, Vining Gallery, which is located on the Near Eastside of downtown Indianapolis.
