The Transition

After 40 plus years in healthcare leadership combined with numerous years of being an adjunct faculty at local universities, I retired and was able to pursue my desire to be involved in the community and my yearning for added personal growth by becoming associated with the Evansville Museum.

After many hours, which turned into weeks, of education, practice, and being mentored by experienced Docents, I became a Docent with the Evansville Museum of Arts, History, and Science. I worked to rid myself of the butterflies that new experiences and challenges bring to a person. I shadowed numerous tours that provided me with confidence to give focused education to area students and adults.

Super Saturday Will Return

The day I am writing this blog post marks exactly one year since the Museum hosted a Super Saturday. While postponing Super Saturday has been a necessary step to keep everyone safe during the pandemic, I’ve been missing it a lot lately.

For those of you who have never been, Super Saturday is the Museum’s monthly family fun day. Each month has a different theme, often being inspired by a current exhibition or theater show at the Museum, and is a day full of hands-on activities, performances, and special guests.

Whooping Cranes

Over the past several years, the International Crane Foundation has been such a wonderful guest, and their presentations on Whooping Cranes have been a crowd favorite. However, like nearly everything in 2020, their annual visit was cancelled due to the pandemic. So, I was delighted when Sophie Wolbert, Whooping Crane Outreach Program Assistant for Indiana, reached out and offered to create a special educational video for the Evansville Museum.

A Thank You to our Docents

As the Curator of Education, I have the pleasure of working closely with the Evansville Museum Docent Association. This group of dedicated volunteers has supported the Museum since 1965, and this year was no exception. However, as many of you have probably noticed, 2020 ended up being a bit different than the year prior. So, I wanted to take the time in my last blog post of the year to really highlight how much the Docents have stepped up to the plate and hit it out of the park.

Twas the Night Before Christmas

In early December, Santa Claus will journey from the North Pole to the Evansville Museum where he will read the classic story “Twas the Night Before Christmas” onboard the Museum’s train. This reading by Santa Claus will be captured on video for guests to enjoy at home. Meanwhile, a team of elves will create take-home bags filled with everything you will need to create your own keepsake ornaments, as well as hot chocolate!
