Special Black History Month Performance This Saturday!

Come see a special performance of "Amazing Grace" by the Children's Center for Dance Education this Saturday February 11th at 2 pm at the Evansville Museum of Arts, History, & Science. This performance is part of Black History Month and is FREE to attend.

The 30-minute performance will feature a selection of dances, in conjunction with live narration, that will highlight different stories and historical events pertaining to Black History in America and around the world. The performance opens with a celebratory piece set to exciting African drum beats choreographed by guest choreographer and CCDE alumnus Michael Mohammed, who is currently the Director of Opera and Musical Theatre at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Other dances within the performance will educate on the history of field work, communication through codes in music, slavery, the Civil War, and the Civil Rights movement, featuring Maya Angelou's "Human Family." The performance will close with a piece taking inspiration from renowned choreographer Alvin Ailey's Revelations, which he choreographed to tell the story of African American determination to move from slavery to freedom. The majority of the pieces in the program are Deena Laska's original choreography.
