-19th Amendment to the United States Constitution

Foreword

On August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment became part of the United States Constitution. This exhibition provides an overview of the decades-long efforts of those who worked for the cause of women’s suffrage—nationally, in Indiana, and locally.

You will learn about key people—women and male allies—who committed themselves to the suffrage effort to create a more just political system in the United States. Though the struggle was long and arduous, and some never saw the ultimate triumph before their deaths, they stayed the course and made their voices heard despite the significant challenges of changing an engrained voting structure.

With the suffrage movement as an inspiration, where can you be an agent of change?

How do you want to better our society and how will you make yourself heard?

Your voice matters!
