FOREWORD

This exhibition shares examples of items produced in Evansville from the immediate post-Civil War era until the onset of World War II. While many other products were made in the city during this era, this exhibition provides an overview of the types of items that men, women, and children produced in the workplace during these decades. These were years that saw significant industrial expansion in Evansville and throughout the country even as the challenges of war, economic depression, and, at times, undesirable working conditions were experienced during this nearly 75-year period.
