Currently on display at the Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science are 24 prints by Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) on loan from the John Szoke Gallery in New York City. Renowned for his paintings and sculpture, Pablo Picasso also is arguably one of the greatest printmakers of the 20th century. He created thousands of printed images, working in intaglio techniques, lithography and linoleum cut.

The 24 works on paper at the Museum explore the themes of identity and interpersonal relationships. Depicted are his friends, lovers, and wives, including Marie-Thérèse Walter (1909-1977) who is the subject of the Evansville Museum’s “Seated Woman in Red Hat” glass mosaic.

“Seated Woman in Red Hat” will be unveiled for the public on June 26, 2024, as part of the inaugural exhibition in the newly renovated Koch Foundation Gallery.

Providing insights into Picasso as both an artist and man, some prints in the exhibition explore the relationship between artist and his models and provide a pictorial chronicle of his life, moods, muses, and passions. The prints were created by the artist from the 1920s through the 1960s.

This exhibition is made possible through the generous support of Stephanie M. Engelbrecht and continues through July 21, 2024.
