FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

M. Susan Hardwick appointed Museum Honorary Lifetime Trustee

Evansville, Indiana – On May 20, 2020, at the annual meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Evansville Museum of Art, History & Science, M. Susan Hardwick was appointed an Honorary Lifetime Trustee.

A respected and honored leader in Evansville, M. Susan Hardwick has a special interest in advancing the arts for our community. She was elected a Trustee of the Evansville Museum in 2002, serving as treasurer from 2004-2005; president elect and co-chair of the Finance Committee from 2005-2007; and president of the Board from 2007-2009.  It was during Hardwick’s term as president the Museum began the key planning phase for our $14.1 million capital campaign completed in 2014. When her term as president ended, she continued her work on the campaign cabinet during the fundraising campaign while chairing the Board’s Advisory Council of past presidents from 2009-2011. In 2015, Hardwick rejoined the Museum’s Board and has participated as a member of the following committees: art, strategic planning and governance.

Susan has supported the Museum not only with her time and talents but is committed to fulfilling our mission through her financial gifts. As a major donor, she currently is sponsoring a five-year series of artist-in-residence exhibitions. These solo exhibitions of the work of artists from across the United States have an important educational component as the artists-in-residence go to several Evansville high schools to teach and interact with young artists.

In addition to her work with the Evansville Museum, Hardwick has served on the boards of the Reitz Home Museum and the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana. In July 2012, she was appointed by Governor Mitch Daniels as a commissioner of the Indiana Arts Commission. Her involvement with other philanthropic and educational organizations in the community include service on the board of St. Mary’s Medical Center, as president of the board of the Evansville Celebration of Diversity Distinguished Lecture Series and as treasurer of Gilda’s Club of Evansville.

Susan was awarded the Athena Award in 2009 by the Chamber of Commerce of Southwestern Indiana and the Sara B. Davies Award by Leadership Evansville in 2016. As a dedicated arts advocate, a passionate collector of contemporary American realist art and a tireless volunteer, she received the prestigious 2017 Mayor’s Art Award for her service to the Evansville community in promoting the arts.
