Moon Festival

On Saturday, July 20, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM, celebrate the 50th anniversary of the day humans first set foot on the Moon with astronomy and rocketry activities during the Museum’s Moon Festival. While it has been 50 years since astronaut Neil Armstrong took that famous “small step for a man, giant leap for mankind,” the Moon has enjoyed a long and colorful history as a part of the poetry, writing, music and art of many cultures.

Moon activities for the day will include a rocket launch and hands-on activities for families. Master storyteller Susan Fowler will present a participatory story for children describing how it took many people working together to get to the Moon.

At 2:00 PM, retired astronomer Joe Caruso will present the program “To the Moon and Back” in the Museum’s Old Gallery. The program will detail the history of Moon exploration from the earliest centuries to today.

The Koch Immersive Theater and Planetarium will present the interactive planetarium show, One Small Step at 2:00 PM and a program on the uplifting future of manned space exploration, Space Next, at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM

Admission to the Koch Immersive Theater & Planetarium programs is $5 for Museum Members.
