As filmgoers sought to escape the struggles of the Great Depression, their burdens were temporarily lifted when they entered the movie palace. During Hollywood’s Golden Age, audiences departed from their difficult realities and reveled in delicious plots, glamourous stars, beautiful Art Deco sets, and stunning fashions worn by their favorite screen stars. In this special presentation, film Historian Annette Bochenek, Ph.D., talks about the stars and original gowns featured in Evansville Museum’s exhibition Escapism: Finding Solace During the Great Depression exhibit (February 28-August 8, 2021), profiling Clara Bow, Joan Crawford, Carole Lombard, Norma Shearer, Barbara Stanwyck, and more. The program includes a multimedia presentation consisting of photos, video clips, and captivating stories.
