Education Department, Museum Camp is a fun, safe, activity-filled summer day
camp that encourages participatory
learning experiences for children who, in Fall of 2008,
will be entering grades two through six. The focus this summer is an
exploration of the diversity of our state, Overseen by the Education
Assistant and led by Museum Staff and Docents, the program is limited to 50
children to allow generous adult-to-child interaction. Dates: Monday – Friday, June 9 -
13, 2008 Time: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Ages: Kids entering grades
2 - 6 in Fall

BEGINNER FIGURE DRAWING In this beginner level class, you will focus on the
fundamentals of drawing the human figure.
Instructors LAURA AND JONATHAN WALKER will implement the use of
line, shape, lights and darks, proportions, and texture to represent the human
figure in drawings that contain both unity and balance. Students at all skill
levels are invited to expand on existing skills. A model will be present at all
classes. Dates: Eight

non-members Register by: Friday, June 13 Maximum 12 students. Join Artist-in-Residence PHILIP JACKSON for
a week of painting and drawing workshops in August! This painting workshop is intended for
the avid painter wanting to learn a contemporary approach to an age old
master’s technique. Each class will be divided into individual parts of the
technique’s process ending with 1-2 finished paintings at the end of the
session. This process takes anywhere from 6-10 layers of painting to complete. Considering the painting time and allotted drying
time this technique makes for a very intensive and patient process but finished
results are incredible. The subject matter used for the painting will be the
still life. classroom. Dates: Monday

DISCOVERY DAYS-EVERY

Come to the Museum to learn something cool!
Kids ages 6-12 (unless otherwise noted) can learn about something
new, plus create a craft or work of art from the experience. All Discovery Days activities
last one and a half to two hours.

pile in a jar, plant seeds for a seed race, and meet some of the bugs that help

among the paintings at the Museum. Come
and experience exciting tales from some of the paintings in our permanent
collection. Children will get to tell a
story of their own by creating a special work of art! Wednesday, July 9, 10:00 a.m. –
11:30 a.m. Solve a “crime” at the Museum using forensics! Participants will compare crystals under a
microscope, dust for fingerprints and use chromatography to build a case
against a suspect. *Recommended for
children ages 8-12 years old. Wednesday, July 16, 10:00 – 11:30
a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. How are clouds formed? Where does a tornado come from? Find out the answers to these wild weather
questions and more through interactive demonstrations. You’ll even get to make some wild weather of
your own! Wednesday, July 30, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. FINE ARTS MINI-CAMP Join local artist and art instructor CYNTHIA WATSON to learn
and explore in this cool art camp.
Activities will inspire students to embrace all the basic techniques
needed to produce
the latest classic, yet flashy and competitive techniques. This exciting class will promote a life-long
interest in producing art and showing it off to friends and family! The curriculum introduces students to
beginner and intermediate techniques in drawing and painting. Students will use a variety of mediums
including acrylics, watercolors, and pastels, among many others. At the end of each camp, families will be
invited to an “art exhibit” to see the masterpieces that students have created. THREE Dates: July
